Here is our final video for Genius Hour. The three leaders decided to restrict our water usage for a day and film it and that is the final product! Though Genius Hour is coming to an end, Thirst Project DCHS is still going! Donations will still be extremely appreciated and accepted. :)

Whitney DeLoach The Challenge
We had planned on doing this challenge for the past few weeks and were finally able to share it on our Instagram! We decided to share it on Earth Day, April 22, because the day presents relevance to our cause. The challenge consists of counting one's water intake for a day and taking the average of those numbers at the end to compare to what the smaller communities in Africa have access to daily. The challenge's goal is to put the privilege of having and being able to use the amount of water we use daily into perspective. We laid out the guidelines and amount of water each action (running water, toilet flushes, etc,) uses up to make it easier for the participants in the Instagram post. Skylette Koon Brainstorming ideas To figure out how we wanted to tackle our potential challenge, us three discussed a plan in a group Facetime call. We decided that we wanted to test out the challenge ourselves, which is what we did on Friday the 10th. The challenge consist of calculating how much water we use a day. We first researched how much water is used when doing everyday chores and activities. This includes flushing the toilet, running a sink faucet, taking a shower, etc. We used this information to help us calculate our average daily water intake.
Whitney DeLoach Our New Goal
The past few weeks have been quite hectic to say the least, but the other leaders and I have still managed to video call a few times and discuss the future of this project. Since fundraisers and raising money seem unrealistic due to the circumstances thus far, we have decided to shift our focus to gear more towards raising awareness instead! Whitney DeLoach The Obstacle COVID-19 is something we sadly cannot control and had to put our club on hold. We have cancelled our Chick-fil-A cookie fundraiser but hope to go back to it the next school year. There is not much we can do about the situation since we are unable to hold meetings with the club and plan events but we are currently brainstorming different ideas to do while sedentary. We will hopefully give updates soon with that process but are hoping to keep going with the club for years to come. We are open to suggestions on ways to raise money/awareness whilst at home and/or other causes we could help out with! Our message to Members "Hey everybody! First of all, we just wanted to thank everyone for the overwhelming support we received through the first weeks of this project. It quickly become more than just a project for us. We wanted to make a difference not only in our community, but in others across the world. We look forward to continuing this throughout our high school journey when we are able. With the caution and fear caused by COVID-19, it has become difficult to accomplish our goals. We have been trying to find ways to still help others, even at home. Everyone is going through a tough time currently with worlds being flipped upside down and no predictions as to what will happen in the coming weeks. The main way to help currently is to just be kind to everyone around you! The smallest act of kindness can go further than it may seem. As for the fundraiser, we do not have specifics but we do not see a way to continue. We are currently trying to set up an online fundraiser and will continue to talk to sponsors." With that being said, donations are still accepted and will be extremely appreciated. Thank you.
Whitney DeLoach Productivity
While this week was, ostensibly, less productive than the past few, it was necessary! We had a meeting on Tuesday, March 10th where were able to officially begin our first fundraiser: selling Chick-fil-A cookies. The cookies are $2.00 each with Chick-fil-A getting $1.00 from each cookie and us gaining $1.00. We hope to raise at least $100-200 from this! We also discussed selling water bottles at one of Davie's movie nights in the summer and asked if anyone in the club was interested in volunteering for shifts in the future. The majority of hands were raised and we are hopeful for this opportunity!
Skylette Koon Getting it StartedOn February 26th, we had our first official club meeting during B Lunch! About 22 members showed up to the meeting, and some members texted us to inform us that they weren't able to go. We were excited to inform the members about our accomplishments so far and our goals. I started off the meeting by asking if everyone has joined the remind and/or filled out the information sheet. There were two new people who came to the meeting, which is always exciting! Whitney then began to talk about some potential sponsors that we have. We hope to get into contact with them soon, and maybe we will have an official sponsor soon!
